2024 is on the horizon and with it, a new landscape in IT. While this could be said each year (the IT industry is, by definition, built on rapidly evolving demands and requirements), 2023 stands out as a transitional focal point as industries and the technologies underpinning them shift into a post-Covid world.
A recent report based on surveys conducted by Spiceworks provides a few key glimpses into what to expect:
Increased IT budgets: Two-thirds of respondents to Spiceworks’s survey indicated plans to increase IT spending next year. The most common areas of increased spending are upgrading infrastructure, increasing focus on IT-related projects, and enhancing security.
A greater focus on IT automation: Many companies (45% of those surveyed) are investing in IT solutions that require less human labor. Automation is a high priority, with AI and deep learning-based solutions as secondary goals.
No one cares about blockchain anymore: Well, not quite “no one,” but only 16 percent of companies surveyed have plans to invest in blockchain-related technologies as part of their 2024 IT investments.
The report also indicates a faint degree of optimism amongst IT providers, with 68 percent of respondents indicating improvements in workplace security, 63 percent citing increased application uptime, and 61 percent seeing increased customer satisfaction.
