Ever wonder how to show appreciation for the people who keep your networks running and the technology at your company chugging along? Fortunately, there’s a day (or two) for just that: This Friday, July 29 is System Administrator (SysAdmin) Appreciation Day!
Now in its 23rd year, SysAdmin Appreciation Day is meant to give thanks to IT folks whose efforts often go unsung and unappreciated. The role of a SysAdmin is to keep network and computer systems operating without major interruptions. This means that, by definition, you’re often only aware of them when something isn’t working.
The position is also typically a demanding one. Many SysAdmins need to be on call 24-7 year-round in case something breaks, up to speed on the latest updates to software, hardware, operating systems and everything in between. They’re often asked to provide tech support for personal devices, provide free advice on all things computer-related, and generally be knowledgeable on all things in the field of technology.
If that sounds like a lot, consider giving the SysAdmin in your life a little act of gratitude next Friday, even if it’s just saying “thanks.” It’ll make their busy day a little brighter.
