Apple has quietly extended its warranty coverage plan for US-based Mac users past its original three year limit.
“In the United States, if you paid upfront for an AppleCare+ plan for your Mac, you can purchase new coverage that renews annually... Your plan coverage may continue beyond 24 or 36 months, on a monthly or annual basis, until canceled,” states an Apple support page.
Apple has yet to specify a set limit for the warranties, but is allowing for existing coverage to be extended, on the condition that the plan is renewed within thirty days of expiration. Plans not renewed within this period will be ineligible for renewal.
While Mac owners covered under AppleCare+ still need to pay for repairs and a $99 service fee for the most common repairs, their plans allow for up to two incidents of accidental damage per year.
The extended warranties will most likely come as a relief for creative agencies that tend to utilize higher-end and more expensive versions of Mac computers and thus replace them less frequently than devices primarily intended for personal use.
