AutoDesk has announced that it is rebranding its VFX project management tool Shotgun to “ShotGrid.”
The company announced the change on its website, effective June 7, 2021.
“The name ShotGrid suggests connected networks and workflows and embodies both the creativity and productivity facilitated by shot-based work in the creative world and the need for efficiency and production management in media and entertainment (M&E) pipelines,” announced the company in a blog post on its newly rebranded ShotGrid website.
In addition to the name change, Autodesk has also consolidated its subscription systems, formerly priced at $30 or $50 per month, to a single $40 per month model. Subscriptions, accounts, and customer support will accordingly be incorporated into Autodesk’s standard systems.
Despite the upbeat tone to Autodesk’s announcement, many users are less than sanguine about the change.
“[T]he new method will only add cost and not reduce it, and frankly i [sic] think it adds complexity and difficulty to the process,” wrote the moderator of the VFX subreddit.
