New software versions of Autodesk’s Maya and 3DS Max have shipped and are available to the general public.
Maya 2022
Autodesk has jumped from version 2020.4 to the latest release of Maya 2022, skipping 2021 entirely. The latest version of its flagship 3d modeling and animation software features the ability to load large data sets more quickly and efficiently; updates existing animation, rigging, and modeling tools; support for Python 3 and OCIO 2; a newly-integrated version of Pixar-developed Universal Scene Description; and Create VR, a virtual reality modeling tool.
Maya is available via subscription at rates of $215 per month (or yearly at $1700/yr).
3DS Max 2022
Autodesk’s other flagship software, 3DS Max, has also shipped and boasts a wide array of new features, and updates to existing modifiers, including Smart Extrude, Slice, Symmetry, Relax, and AutoSmooth.
3DS Max 2022 has also undergone extensive security features and improvements against malicious scripts embedded in scene files.
3DS Max 2022 is currently available for Windows 10, at similar rates to Maya 2022.
