Oracle warned users of Apple’s newer models to avoid updating to the latest version (14.4) of macOS Sonoma, citing the fact that it breaks all versions of Java.
“There is no workaround available, and since there is no easy way to revert a macOS update, affected users might be unable to return to a stable configuration unless they have a complete backup of their systems prior to the OS update,” wrote Aurelio Garcia-Ribeyro, Senior Direct of Product Management at Oracle.
Issues with the update, which was released June 7, aren’t limited to Java. Apple-centric website MacRumors cited a wide range of issues with USB hubs, printer drivers, PACE products, and deleted iCloud files.
It’s unclear why the most recent update has caused this many issues, but it seems like the best option is to hold off on updating until Apple releases a newer version.
