New Mac Pro Desktops and Displays Available for Order

Apple announced that it’s taking orders for its new Mac Pro desktop computers and Pro Display monitors. While this is exciting news for many customers in the VFX and creative industries who have been clamoring for a more customizable workstation than its iMac Pro line of all-in-one computers, it comes with a few caveats.

Although Apple is accepting payments for them, the company has yet to announce when the units would actually be shipping to customers. Industry speculation is that the units may ship in late January, this should be taken with a sizable grain of salt until confirmation comes from the company itself.

As with any rollout for new hardware, compatibility with existing and/or upcoming software is also a vital consideration for studios wishing to invest in them. To this end, details have also been limited from key software studios such as Autodesk about if or how there would be any potential conflicts in upgrading. Considering that the latest tech specs from Apple show that a fully decked-out Desktop Pro would cost $52,5999(!), most businesses would most likely want to ensure full compliance committing to such a major purchase.

While the Mac Pro and Pro Display promise to be flexible and high-performing solutions, there are still many questions that need to be answered before most studios and offices would want to make a commitment to new equipment that is, at its cheapest, roughly $11,000 for the desktop and monitor.
